Building Your Capsule Shoe Wardrobe

I received a beautiful message from one of my outfit edit members, and it caught my attention. This is what she said: Any tips on a capsule shoe wardrobe? In particular, shoes that can be interchanged for a semi-formal office to the weekend.

The reason I love this question so much is that we often forget about how to create a shoe capsule wardrobe. So if you're someone that feels overwhelmed by all the shoe choices out there, and you really want to niche down your wardrobe, then this is for you.

One of the best things that we can do is build out a capsule shoe wardrobe that features timeless styles. They're the styles that are perfect for mixing and matching different outfits because they have their own individual style, but they work so well together. So how do we do this and what does this look like?

Top five must-have shoes to help you create a capsule wardrobe

Before we begin with my top five capsule shoe wardrobe, I just want to mention that you will be the one to choose your own colours and your own detailed styles.

If you don't know your personal style, then just stick with classic tones, such as black and beige and a polished look, rather than those trendy studs and laces and all the funky trendy looks.

1. The ballet flat

This is the most comfortable option for any occasion. You can wear the ballet flat with trousers, a dress, or your favourite pair of jeans or shorts, and you can seriously walk all day long in a ballet flat or dance all night long in a ballet flat without that discomfort and pain.

A ballet flat is just a really easy, go-to look that you can pop on when you don’t know what you're doing for the day, but you know that your shoes have got your back.

2. The ankle boots

I am such an ankle boot girl and it's just not for winter. It's actually worn for every season, summer, winter, spring and autumn. You can wear the ankle boot from casual jeans to a chic skirt, and the ankle boots can take you from day to night.

You can really pull together an outfit and make it pop just by having an ankle boot and again, as I mentioned earlier, the colour choice will be yours.

3. The happy strappy sandal

If you don't know what your personal style is, the happy strappy sandal is okay. I just love how versatile they are. They are perfect for dressy occasions, for those casual days at home. The strappy sandal can be dressed up with Sunday dresses and dressed down with a pair of shorts. I call this the strappy happy sandal because it's so versatile and you can wear them with any outfit.

They do also look a little bit trendier than just your ballet flats.

4. The classic pump

This is a timeless style that can be dressed up or down depending on your mood. A classic pump is a must-have for our capsule wardrobe because we can take this to the office, we can wear this to a wedding, we can wear them to a formal and we can even wear them on casual days as well. It's just versatile enough for any occasion. So you are not going to have any problem adding the style to your capsule wardrobe.

The one thing I would suggest is picking your pump size carefully. Go for a block small heel, or if you want to go for that really tall pump heel, then go for that one. Just stick to one pump or one style of heel. That will be your go-to capsule wardrobe and shoe choice.

5. The sleek sneakers

There is seriously a whole world of sleek, stylish sneakers out there, just waiting for you to find these sleek sneakers that will honestly make you feel like the coolest person in the group and can be worn for any occasion. You can wear a sleek sneaker from office parties to smart, casual vibes, to a date night movie, or brunch out with the girls. There is no wrong time to wear a sleek sneaker because they're so versatile.

You can wear a sleek sneaker to a smart casual office by wearing the rest of the outfit very glammed up with a very chic coat, a very nice turtleneck top, and some nice earrings and then you've got your sleek sneaker.

Summary

You can go to your classic pump, strappy sandal, ankle booty, or your ballet flat. Just by having these five shoe styles in your wardrobe, you can create so many different outfits for the year. So many different outfits for the mood, for the occasion, and that's all you really need. The colours will be your choice and the type of styles, such as added lace or the fancy bits and bulb.
